GTA 6 Gameplay Reveal Confirmed: An Extended Look, August 27, on Netflix

Rockstar dated its next GTA 6 showcase: An Extended Look, August 27 at 3 PM ET, premiering on Netflix. What is confirmed and what it still must answer.

Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 6, 2026, dated for August 27 at 3 PM ET.
The showcase premieres on Netflix at 3 PM ET. Rockstar's announcement page links its Remind Me button to netflix.com/GTAVI; press reporting says it reaches Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official site six hours later, at 9 PM ET the same day.
Rockstar has still not used the label "Trailer 3" for this showcase, and the announcement video does not describe it as one.

Overview

Why this update matters

Rockstar ended the guessing on August 6, 2026. An Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto VI is dated for August 27 at 3 PM ET, announced through a short video on Rockstar's own channel. The detail most coverage is missing sits in the announcement page itself: the Remind Me button points at Netflix, and Netflix lists the showcase as a title on its own service. This is not another numbered trailer — it is the extended showing the campaign has been building toward, and Netflix gets it first.

When is the GTA 6 gameplay reveal?

August 27, 2026 at 3 PM ET. Rockstar dated An Extended Look on August 6 and put a countdown on the official Grand Theft Auto VI page, alongside a short announcement video on its own channel.

That is a scheduled event with a published hour, not a surprise upload. It breaks the pattern of both previous trailers, which appeared in the morning Eastern time with no advance notice — Trailer 2 in particular arrived with no warning at all.

Where to watch: Netflix first, YouTube six hours later

The Remind Me button on Rockstar's announcement page links to netflix.com/GTAVI, which resolves to a Netflix title page. Netflix's own listing reads: "Coming August 27: See an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI, the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series."

That makes this the first time a mainline Grand Theft Auto showcase has been staged as a streaming premiere rather than a straight video upload. The announcement video on YouTube does not mention Netflix; the arrangement is only visible on the announcement page and on Netflix itself.

That exclusivity is a window, not a wall. Multiple outlets reporting on the announcement — including Video Games Chronicle, Variety and GameSpot — say the showcase reaches Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official Grand Theft Auto VI site the same day at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET, six hours after the Netflix premiere. Rockstar's own page does not carry that second time, so we are attributing it rather than stating it flat; if you do not have Netflix, you are waiting hours, not days.

Is An Extended Look the same thing as Trailer 3?

Rockstar has not called it Trailer 3, and the naming looks deliberate. "An Extended Look" is the language of a longer-form presentation, closer to the GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay videos than to a numbered story trailer.

The distinction still matters for what you should expect. A numbered trailer advances Jason and Lucia's story without explaining systems; a gameplay presentation is where switching, mission structure and moment-to-moment control usually get shown. Our Trailer 2 breakdown covers what the story side has already established, and every official video is collected on our trailers hub.

How this compares to our September projection

This article previously projected a September 2-10 window, derived from the two most recent Rockstar campaigns: GTA V's gameplay video came 70 days before launch, Red Dead Redemption 2's came 78 days before. Counting back from November 19 produced early September.

The actual date is August 27, which is 84 days out — six days earlier than the wider end of that window, and earlier in the cycle than either precedent. The reasoning held up directionally, but Rockstar moved sooner than both of its own recent campaigns, which is worth noting for anyone modelling what comes next.

The practical lesson is that pre-orders being open since June 25 changed the shape of this campaign. Rockstar is not pacing GTA VI like a game it still has to convince people to buy.

What the Extended Look still needs to answer

The two trailers establish setting, protagonists, supporting cast and tone, but neither is a systems walkthrough. The open questions are how switching between Jason and Lucia works, how robberies and heists are structured, how wanted levels and police response behave, and how much of Leonida is traversable from the start.

Performance modes, the launch-day multiplayer plan and the final scope of the map are also unresolved, though a showcase of this kind may not cover all of them. We will update this article once the Extended Look airs, and follow the release-date tracker for confirmed launch information.
