GTA VI Two protagonists, one story
For the first time in the series, Grand Theft Auto VI centers on two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Their relationship — loyalty, ambition, and the chaos of life in Leonida — anchors the entire story.
Who is Jason Duval?
Jason Duval grew up around grifters and crooks, and did a stint in the Army trying to shake off a troubled adolescence. He ended up in the Florida Keys working for local drug runners — familiar, comfortable work, but not the life he actually wants. As Rockstar puts it: "Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."
Jason's restless streak runs through Rockstar's own marketing — from fishing trips with his friend Cal Hampton to tearing down the coast on a Principe Alvino motorcycle, the same kind of shot that closes out Trailer 2, with a biplane skimming low overhead.
Who is Lucia Caminos?
Lucia's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk, and life's been swinging at her ever since — including a stretch in the Leonida Penitentiary for standing up for her family. Out on sheer luck, she's committed to only smart moves from here on. More than anything, she wants the good life her mother always dreamed of back in Liberty City — the kind you have to take rather than wait for. Lucia is also the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game.
That resolve turns violent fast in Rockstar's own footage — Trailer 2 shows her in a skull bandana, submachine gun raised, in the middle of a bank robbery gone loud.
How they meet
The two meet, and it changes both of their calculations. Rockstar frames Jason's read on it directly: "Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him." For Lucia, the stakes are just as personal: "a life with Jason could be her way out." That tension is the emotional engine the rest of GTA VI is built around, one Rockstar will keep unpacking between now and the game's November 19, 2026 launch.
